Church of the Martyrs

Information

Church of the Martyrs: What's On?

Here are a few details about just some of the events and activities at the Martyrs. Of course, there are many other events and activities that happen in the life of the church.

These lists are in no special order of importance – they are just lists.

Home Groups

Home Groups are gatherings of between 6 and 12 church members and others. At the Martyrs, Home Groups normally meet every week. They follow a mixed programme of prayer, Bible teaching, discussion about life (and in particular living as a Christian), general social activities and personal support. Most groups meet in the evening, but one very large group meets on a Wednesday morning, and is awash with (mainly) mums and pre-school children. Home Groups are open to anyone.

Hope Group

The Hope Group is very similar to a Home Group, except it is specially for adults with learning difficulties.

Open to
Question

This is an occasional event that has previously been held in a local Club. After a meal and a drink, there is a down-to-earth presentation on a question about life and faith. For example, “What is life all about?”, or “If there is a God, so what?” People then have a chance to hear the views of others in a small group, and contribute their own ideas.

Open to Question is particularly useful for people who are wanting to think more deeply about life and God, and for people feel they are Christians, but want to get God sorted in their lives.

Living
Faith

There are regular courses for adults and teenagers who are thinking of being Confirmed. These may follow Open to Question (the series is called Open to God), or may be a Living Faith course. Confirmation is an important and useful steps for people who are baptised, and are growing in their commitment to God and the Church.

Shake, Rattle and Roll

Shake, Rattle and Roll meets every week on Thursday mornings in church.

It offers a Christian event for children aged 0 to 3½ (babies and toddlers) plus their parents and child-minders.

The programme includes lots of creative play and chat, plus a simple Bible story, some action songs and a prayer.

Shake, Rattle and Roll is very popular!

Mothers'
Union

There is a strong, mixed-age Mothers’ Union group at the Martyrs, which is active in a number of initiatives, including prayer for local schools and families, and helping produce packs for homeless people moving into accommodation for the first time.

Rainbows
Brownies
Guides

All these groups are very active at the Martyrs. There is one Rainbow group, two Brownie groups, and one large Guide group. These meet on various evenings.

Football

The Martyrs has a football team, which sometimes enjoys some success!

Sunday
Club

Sunday Club has its own special page. Click HERE.

Just

The Martyrs is supportive of various fair trade initiatives. The church and its membership have been very supportive of the Just Shop in the city centre – selling fairly traded goods, and promoting fair trade issues in Leicester.
