How Rich are You?

I found globalrichlist.com helped me to put my wealth in perspective. If you go to this site you can type your annual salary in and find out where you come in a list of the world’s wealthiest people. Hope you find it useful. Bear in mind also that if you consider the wealth of those in the developed world in the 21st Century this puts us amongst the wealthiest people who have ever lived.

My wife, Sharon, found this and sent me the link. If you feel that you want to put your wealth to good use in helping others there are a number of websites you can look at. Your wealth however is just one part of all the resources you have access to. Try looking at "The year of living generously site" if you want to respond generously and creatively.

Work for Asylum Seekers

This is from Church Action on Poverty – “A motion has been tabled in the House of Commons calling for the Government to extend the principle of work for those who can, support for those who can't' to everyone in the UK, including people seeking asylum. We need many MP's to support this motion to put the pressure on the Home Secretary to change the policies that are making people seeking asylum destitute.”

Please, please contact your MP asking that s/he supports the motion.

Global Week of Action Against Small Arms.

Oxfam are looking to get 1 million people supporting this campaign and have 960,000. They invite you to e-mail this to others you know in order to reach the million people. For those of you wishing to avoid the World Cup - apologies!

CONTROL ARMS GETS WORLD CUP FEVER!
Join our huge virtual football stadium: choose a seat, create a character in your own team colours, and invite your friends to sit next to you. Score one for the Control Arms campaign.

Enter the stadium and select a seat and choose a virtual person to represent you, give it a look, clothes and hair-style, write a message and, if you want to you can upload your photograph to the Million Faces petition . It's a lot of fun. We’ve already spotted twins, bearded ladies and Ronaldinho look-alikes.

The stadium has the backing of some of the world’s biggest players and includes photographs and personal messages from stars such as Arsène Wenger, Claude Makelele, Liliam Thuram, Emmanuel Petit, Emilio Butragueño and Damiano Tommasi , to name but a few, showing their support for Control Arms. Many of them will be sitting at the stadium and they will have personal messages for the fans who spot them.

World Cup Fever. Have you got it? Pass it on: email the link to friends, and get them to pass it on too!

Encourage the Government

Patricia Hewitt, my MP, wrote to me last week outlining the education for all initiative launched by Hilary Benn and Gordon Brown last week in Mozambique. The cynic might say that this is just spin. However, do please write or e-mail Gordon Brown, Hilary Benn and Patricia Hewitt encouraging them over their pledge to increase spending from £2 billion (last ten years) to £8.5 billion (next ten years). You may also like to know some more details and ask them for regular updates. Positive pressure works too.
